[jitsi-users] Simulcast FF + chrome

#1

Hello,

Is it possible to activate simulcast now the JItsi-Meet natively supports Firefox ?

Regards,
Franck

Hello Franck,

The short answer is no, not at the moment, as we’re in the middle of some very substantial changes to the way we handle simulcast.

We have removed most of the simulcast handling from the client. The plan is to move it into the bridge, so that the bridge sends a single video stream for each participant by rewriting the simulcast SSRCs, but that’s still a work in progress. The advantage that this has is that it simplifies the clients a lot as they don’t have to manage multiple streams from the same participant.

We will keep everyone posted on the progress of this work.

Best,
George

Very nice George. Does it mean the clients could support more than 12
participants in a conference. Because browsers are currently painful so far
when there are almost 10 participants.

Cheers

Yes, this is certainly one of the main reasons why we’re doing this.
