[jitsi-users] Serious problems with SIP since nightly build 353x

#1

Hi,

since beginning of this week, I encounter serious problems in Jitsi with SIP accounts. I hope that there is some work-around for these issues:
Around Tuesday this week, Jitsi started to behave "strange" with my SIP-accounts, albeit there seem to be different problems with the accounts:

sip.smartvoip.com
The account is connected. No problem there.
However, no SIP call is possible. It opens the call windows, but always states "Call is being prepared". It never goes beyond this. [Additional remark: Jitsi even before had little problems with sip.smartvoip.com, but after trying to call again or a second time again, it worked. That was not a big issue].

sipkom.com
The account is connected. No problem there.
However, calling via SIP is not possible. The call window opens. The window states that it rings at the other end (but it doesn't) and the window states that the connection is succesful (but it isn't). Very strange.

Both accounts worked perfectly before. The account settings have not changed. The WLAN router settings have not changed.
Last week I updated Ubuntu from 10.10 to 11.04, but even after that, I called many people without problems. I also uninstalled Jitsi (entirely) and reinstalled it, but nothing changed. I reinstalled Ekiga and Ekiga has no problems with both accounts.

Do you have an idea what the problem could be? What can I do? Is it a bug in the SIP stack?

Thank you very much for your help,
Gerry

Hi,

I have also encountered many problems with SIP both on Linux and Windows
PCs. We use an Asterisk server and Jitsy can no longer register properly; it
continues to ask to re-enter the password and then it fails to make outgoing
calls anyway. Jitsy had been working fine in the beginning of the week, but
somewhere in the middle of the week the problems arose. The problem seems
only with Jitsi as other softphones have had no problems connecting to the
Asterisk server. I have tried to uninstall Jitsi and downgrade to a previous
build, but the problem still persists even when I do a complete uninstall
and remove all associated log files with Jitsi. Any help would be
appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Emil,

thank you for your fast reply. Here are the log files.
These are the log files as of Jun15th when I already had the problems. If you request it I can send new ones (after reinstalling Jitsi), too.

There are no error messages either so it's hard for us to know exactly

Hi Emil,

thank you for your great help. Everything works fine again.

Both accounts (SmartVOIP and Sipkom) work again. As you described in the FAQ, I disabled all Audio CODECs and enabled them stepy by step. Jitsi works now having enabled PCMU 8000, G722/16000, GSM/8000, and speex 16000. If I add more CODECs, then connecting becomes an issue.

Thank you also for trying out an account at sipkom.com. Just for your information, Ekiga did not have any problems with Sipkom this week. Anyway, the CODEC-trick apparently solved the problems with sipkom, too.

Thanks a lot!
Gerry.

the call is connected, but it simply is not.

From the logs it seems that the server never starts sending media. I
just created an account there and made a test call. Got the same result:
I never receive RTP packets from sipkom.

There are no error messages either so it's hard for us to know exactly
what is going wrong. I am afraid you'd have to check this with them.

Cheers,
Emil
