[jitsi-users] Quick Question about jitsi mobile

#1

Hi,

In Jitsi mobile, how is simulcast implemented? Do we send multiple streams or is it temporal scalability?

My main question is overhead.

Thanks,
Osama

Hi all

About this question:

I’m reading this:

https://webrtchacks.com/sfu-simulcast/

“Scalable Video Coding (SVC) is thus a stream where video information is structured in a way allowing to decode all or part of it. Akin to simulcast, the SFU can then decide which quality (i.e. which packets) from a scalable video stream to forward to each participant.”

Jitsi-videobridge is working this way?

Thank!

No, the mobile apps don’t currently use simulcast.

Yes, the Jitsi Videobridge supports simulcast (and SVC for temporal scalability). Jitsi Meet uses it on the web.
