[jitsi-users] Outlook presence

#1

I am using Jitsi for a few months as client with openfire server that is
synchronized against LDAP and everything works fine  Today I found that
Jitsi is capable of pushng IM presence info to outlook, but for some
reaason I am unable to set i up. I enabled address book in contact
resources and I can see users in contact list in jitsi, but all of them
looks line offline and I have only option to request adding them to contact
list. Also in outlook I dont see any presence info or ability to send IM. I
somewhere online I found post about matching contact names, but I am not
sure how to do that - I tried adding user@openfire to contact in outlook IM
field - no luck :frowning:
Could someone please provide some info about how this feature works?

Thank you

Hello,

I鈥檓 also using LDAP Integration with Outlook presence and it worked out of the box. Jitsi must be running and and logged in for it to work, so Outlook and Jitsi must be interacting somehow, and the only way to match both worlds that I can think of is than XMPP username and Outlook emails are exactly the same. This is my case and it works!

Best regards,
Xavier Romero

I don't know how the match for contacts is exactly performed. What works best is if your XMPP (i.e. Openfire) usernames are the same as the e-mail addresses of your users, e.g. john.doe@example.com.

You also need to make sure that Jitsi is registered as the default IM provider (an option during the setup). Uninstall the Lync client or Windows Live Messenger if you have it, they both try to set themselves as the IM provider (perhaps Skype does that too now but I don't know for sure).

Thanks for suggestions. I am trying to set up username to openfire as
email, but for some reason it semms that openfire does not like sign @ in
username. Is there some trick how to do it?

I tried that too. My enviroment is, as I said LDAP to openfire. Where in
openfire username is last name of the user in LDAP. So I tried to add to
contact in outlook to IM field lastname@openfire. Yet it is still not
working. :frowning:

Hello Branislav,

I think you should try to fill the email field for the contact in the Outlook with the JID of the user. For example if you have contact in your Jitsi contact list 鈥渆xample@jit.si <mailto:example@jit.si>鈥 and you have contact in Outlook 鈥渆xample鈥 - try to add email to the Outlook contact 鈥渆xample@jit.si <mailto:example@jit.si>鈥.

Regards,
Hristo.

Ok I just figured it out. For some strange reason my OS had in registry set
default IM provider to Lync which is strange since it is a fresh system and
I have not installed it there... After changing key in registry to
communicator it is working great

Are you sure Jitsi is registered as your default IM provider?
