[jitsi-users] other XMPP/Jingle applications

#1

Hi,

I have a question. I was wondering if we could use our jitsi account
with other XMPP clients, or the Jitsi servers prohibit this?
Chat part works fine everywhere, but the audio calls are not.

First we tried 2 Gajims. We could initiate a call, but there was no
sound at all. We couldn't even see any activity in the pavucontrol's
Playback tab. (But we saw our microphone was working in the Recording
tab)

Then we tried Pidgin. Same thing happened here.

I tried KDE Telepathy, and Kopete (he stayed with Gajim and Pidgin) but
I can't even initiate a call. The button was gray.

And finally, I tried the good old Jitsi app. I could call him, though
the conversation was not encrypted, it worked. I'm not sure, but I think
he couldn't call me back.

So is it possible to use it with other XMPP/Jingle compatible apps, or
the server requires the Jitsi program?

Thanks in advance

Mike

The jit.si service runs a generic XMPP server and is not tied to a
particular client.

Hello everyone,

I have a similar problem, running Jitsi 2.4.4997 on Trisquel 7.0.

After install, I could acitivate my jit.si account and I could even chat with a friend who uses a jabber account. However, the menu items for video and audio calls stayed gray although in the settings menu, webcam and audio system were doing alright.

Can anyone please help?

Thank you in advance and warm regards

Florian
