[jitsi-users] open and close sound device

#1

Hello,

In my last post last month I tried to explain why it is not a good idea to
open and close the output sound device during a call. Since on high quality
devices there is a small time leg in opening and closing, voice sounds
scattered.

Have I been able to convince you? Will there be some changes coming?

Ognian you should post this to the dev mailing list. This is where people deal with bugs/feature requests. And I fully support your suggestion: Some linux users may want to use jackd to link the audio inputs/outputs to other applications. If the audio device is closed this usually means that all jackd connections are lost and have to be re-established.

We are doing no such thing actually. We open the device once in the
beginning of a call and close it at the end. I don't think port audio is
doing anything similar either so the behaviour that you describe could
be due to the OS, the hardware, or the drivers.

Hope this helps,
Emil
