[jitsi-users] no encryption in outbound Facebook messages with Adium on Mac; OTR on

#1

Hi everybody,

I am using the latest Jitsi 2.8.5426 with Facebook on Win 8.1 64-bit.
I start OTR manually with an Adium 1.5.10 user on Mac OS Yosemite and
get the usual "Unverified private conversation with %username started."

Then I expect that my conversation will be encrypted with OTR as long
as I see the locked lock icon in the conversation window in Jitsi.
However, then my outbound messages are still unencrypted and viewable
in Facebook web interface, even though I see a locked lock icon in the
Jitsi conversation panel. The other user's messages are encrypted and
my Jitsi decrypts them without any issues. I have tried restarting
Jitsi bit it did not help. Additionally, I am now observing the same
behavior with a person on Ubuntu 14.10/Pidgin 2.10.9.

Is this a FB XMPP flaw, a Jitsi glitch, an Adium/Pidgin bug or am I
doing something wrong?

Maybe there's a glitch in Jitsi in the sense that the padlock icon isn't
updated when the selected outgoing sub-contact and/or XMPP resource
changes. I remember that was the case a long time ago though but I may
be wrong.

An XMPP contact can be connected through multiple XMPP connections. You
can even have metacontacts to group multiple contacts together, each
possibly connected through multiple XMPP connections.

If you talk to your friend through the encrypted session (you can select
the outgoing session in the bottom left side of the chat pane), do the
messages still appear unencrypted in FB chat?
