Dear Sirs,

I'm trying to use Jitsi for secure webcam and voice chat with my
friends, but alas every time we try to use it, the program returns an
error message, that ICE failed. (Network used is Google). Any
suggestions how to solve it? Unfortunately the documentation on the
Jitsi-Website is VERY poor concerning such error message. Your help is
greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Christian Vorwerk

or - to be more general and as there are some unressolved issues with
jit.si - just any public xmpp server: http://xmpp.net/ . google is not
quite so compatible and uses some an own flavour of the jingle standard.

I am not sure if this advice is helpful. First of all, I am not sure
what unresolved issues you are referring to. Personally I am not aware
of any such issues that would affect communication between two jit.si
accounts with Jitsi, but not communication on other servers.

Secondly, it is important for test servers to have a jingle nodes
relay. xmpp.net does not give that information.

Thirdly, if you are referring to the federation issues, I understand
that you are frustrated about them but the above is not helping. If
you'd really like to help then please get in touch with a maintainer
of a server that wouldn't federate with jit.si and ask them to look
into it. (Also have you confirmed that all the servers on xmpp.net
have no federation issues with anyone?)

If you'd like to recommend additional servers with jingle node relays,
that's totally fine. But please don't do so at the price of
misrepresenting and misleadingly reporting problems about others.

I just want to save him from experiencing this frustration of mine
when trying to use federation. I have not checked every single server
for federation issues but i know that jit.si has some for shure.
Talking to x server mainainers seems counterintuitive to me as i
belive the problem to be with jit.si and not with multiple other
servers (especialy as those do not have any kind of problem
communicating with each others). i am quite shure that the problem is
with jit.si

yeah, right, jinglenodes, forogt about that, sorry.

It seems to me that this would be more appropriate once someone actually reports a problem with federation?

Yes, you've already reported that and we've already acknowledged it. I am not sure exactly what are you expecting to happen when you keep repeating it in unrelated topics? Do you think we are hiding a solution?

This is not helpful.

relays, that's totally fine. But please don't do so at the price

Right. That's why it helps to concentrate on the problem that's being reported, not the one that's most important to us.
