[jitsi-users] Jitsi Videobridge and Hammer - Performance testing

#1

Hi All,

We are using two virtual machines installed on KVM with ubuntu 16.04 OS and
specs as 6vCPU / 24GB RAM / 10GB disk. One of them is used as Video bridge
and the other as Hammer. We request for inputs to perform the below tests.

*Test 1 *: Normal load test with audio + Video streams; Load as 100 users /
10 rooms

*Output to measure : CPU and memory utilization, Peak network bandwidth &
Packet loss.*

*Test 2* : Increase number of rooms (with users/room as constant) with
audio + video streams until packet loss occurs.

*Output to measure : CPU and memory utilization, Peak network bandwidth &
Packet loss.*

*( + ) User & Room count at which packet loss exceeds 2 % (or) New users
are unable to connect to the server.*

*Test 3:* Increase number of users (with no. of rooms constant) with audio
+ video streams until packet loss occurs.

*Output to measure : Same as Test 2*

···

------------

Where do we find the statistics reports ?

FYI : We are running the traffic generator script (./jitsi-hammer.sh
-BOSHuri http://10.20.130.50:5280/http-bind -users 100 -room 10) on the
Hammer VM and able to see the packets using tcpdump on Videobridge VM.

cat .sip-communicator/sip-communicator.properties
org.jitsi.impl.neomedia.transform.srtp.SRTPCryptoContext.checkReplay=
falseRestart
org.jitsi.videobridge.ENABLE_STATISTICS=true

Thanks,
Shree.

The statistics in the hammer are known to be not working properly. I would suggest to query the bridge for statistics via REST:
https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-videobridge/blob/master/doc/using_statistics.md

Note that the "rtp_loss" statistic is currently broken, but we are working on a fix.

Hi Awasthi,
where is your Hammer installed and what are the specs ? what is length of conference and are you able to scale up 1000 Users. How many Channels and streams ?To help you on this.. can you share us your Hardware and Test step up details. I guess, you are doing a performance testing or bench-marking ?
ThanksShyam Yeduru

Hello Boris / Shyam Yeduru,

As communicated earlier, we are using a an Ubuntu (6vCPU / 24GB RAM / 10GB
disk) VM on KVM to do the performance testing and measure the output of the
3 tests described above mail.

We are still unable to collect the statistics using REST APIs (Ex : curl

please give an example in-order to collect the statistics on Jitsi
Videobridge. Do we need to enable port 8080 for Colibri, in some other
config as well?

There isn't any firewall blocking port 8080.

Thanks for the reply Boris. Yes, I have attached all the conf files in my
earlier mail. Could you kindly check, what may be going wrong ? Kindly do
let me know, if any other logs / conf files are required to debug further.

We are struck at this since long days.

Best,
Shree.
PS: It was a side question to know the "jitsi-hammer.sh" command to create
10 rooms since we dont find it in help !

1. How do we collect stats ?

What you try above (GET /colibri/stats) should work.

2. How to increase the rooms ?

I don't understand this, can you elaborate please?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Best,

Note:
root@ubuntu16:~# curl http://10.20.130.50:8080/colibri/stats

Run curl with -v to see what the response is. If it is 503 this is likely to statistics not being enabled in the bridge configuration.

Looks like the REST interface is enabled and working, it just has no active conferences.

Hello Boris,

Awaiting your inputs on running 10 conferences (or rooms) in parallel with
100 users in each room. Do we need to run " ./jitsi-hammer.sh " in 10
different threads ??? Kindly suggest.

@SY : Even we could not get all the required stats at the specified
location. Sample below. Could you kindly share all of your conf files and
also try to comment out "*JVB_OPTS*" as conveyed in my earlier mail.

Thanks for your time Boris. The video started steaming and stats started
generating limitedly *after the below commenting out JVB_OPTS at

-> How do I increase the number of rooms (or) Conferences ? We need to
measure Peak network bandwidth and packet loss when Jitsi hammer workload
is 100 Users / 10 rooms (conferences). Do we need to run "jitsi-hammer.sh"
simultaneously in ten terminals ? We need to have 100 users per room /
conference.

Best,

Shree.

I forgot the link to the documentation:

Note that if you installed the jitsi-meet package the config file is in
/etc/jitsi/videobridge and not in your home directory.
