[jitsi-users] Jitsi newbie and Sipgate

#1

I have a sipgate.co.uk account and, using sjphone and sflphone I can call my account at voiptalk.org.

With Jitsi I get "Call failed, not found (unknown domain)" - log shows:
SEVERE: [95] impl.protocol.sip.OperationSetBasicTelephonySipImpl.processResponse().590 Received error: 404 not found (unknown domain)

I can call 10000@sipgate.co.uk successfully.

I've searched the mailing list and followed the suggestion of deleting unwanted encryptions - I've got just PCMU/8000 left, but I still can't call voiptalk.org.

Is there something extra I need to configure or extra logging I can turn on?

Thanks.

Hey John,

The 404 response you see comes from the server so you either have the wrong
address or something else is off. One way or another, you have to start
your diagnostics at the server side.

Cheers,
Emil

(sorry about replying direct!!) - second attempt:

I appreciate your reply and understand what you are saying.
But what I don't understand is why sjphone and sflphone work just fine.
What I'm thinking is that I've got Jitsi wrongly configured, perhaps inthe 'Registrar' or 'Proxy' areas. I've tried various entries but withoutsuccess.
John.

Hey John,

Just gave it a try. When you create your sipgate account you must only
fill in your username (including the sipgate.co.uk domain) and password.
Like this:

username: john.percival@sipcate.co.uk
password: 12355ss

You shouldn't have to change proxies and registrars.

Hope this helps,
Emil

Thanks for the reply and apologies for the delay in responding but I've been away from home for several days.

I also have SIP accounts with Ekiga and Iptel (among others!). These, plus Sipgate, all allow calls to other providers when I use sjphone.
My sjphone configuration is pretty much default e.g.:
Account- e.g 1234567 (at Sipgate I'm a number, not a name) and valid password
Proxy domain- sipgate.co.uk : 0
User domain- sipgate.co.uk
Register with proxy- ticked

On the same PC, if I use Jitsi, both Ekiga and Iptel will allow calls to other providers, e.g Voiptalk. But with Sipgate, it seems I can only call other Sipgate accounts: if I try Voiptalk, I get error 404.
My Jitsi configuration is simply:
SIP id- e.g 1234567@sipgate.co.uk and valid password

Do you have any further suggestions for solving this problem, please?

Thanks.

John.
