[jitsi-users] Jitsi Meet vs. Jitsi Desktop

#1

Hi all,

I apologize in advance in case the topic was already
covered, but a quick (and naive) search did not
return any useful (for me information).

The main question is:

Is Jitsi Meet intended to replace Jitsi Desktop?

Furthermore, I read the Meet works without server,
in p2p fashion, how is this done?

Finally, I see there are Meet packages for Debian,
but no rpm (like in Desktop), is there any plan
to provide those? At least .spec file...

Thanks a lot in advance and sorry again in case
of duplicated question(s),

bye,

Hi,

No its not a replacement, Jitsi Meet is video conferencing solution,
while Jitsi Desktop is a desktop client which you can use with any
xmpp or sip server for chat and video calls.

Furthermore, I read the Meet works without server,

You need a server, it is that in one to one call it can run the media
directly between peers if that is possible and uses the videobridge
otherwise.

Finally, I see there are Meet packages for Debian,
but no rpm (like in Desktop), is there any plan

No plans for that, any contribution is welcome.
