[jitsi-users] Jitsi Meet Display Names and Authentication

#1

Hello List,

I'm setting up Jitsi Meet, and everything is going swimmingly, except that
everyone that joins the meeting is called 'Fellow Jitster'. I have prosody
authentication = "internal_hashed". Is there a way I can associate a
display name in Meet with the prosody account? Perhaps
user@domain.example.com ?

How do most folks deploying Meet set things up so the user doesn't have to
set their display name (nickname?) every time they connect? This mostly
affects users who aren't streaming video or who are sharing their screen.

Thanks!

-Darren

Hi,

The same questions was asked by Guus der Kinderen on the last
community call. This is not currently implemented and I just contacted
him offline, he had intention to implement it if time permits
Basically I see that the strophe library we use in lib-jitsi-meet has
a plugin for retrieving vcards, so this can be easily implemented and
added there.

But there is an option in the config.js that force people to write their names. Can be useful meanwhile the feature is implemented.

Cheers.

Jack, are you talking about this "useNicks: false" to "true"? Will this
replace "Fellow Jitster"?

This one:
requireDisplayName: true, // Forces the participants that doesn't have
display name to enter it when they enter the room.

Cheers

No,

The option is requireDisplayName change it from false to true. That option will force people to write their names before starting the conference and will replace the fellow jitser default name.
