[jitsi-users] Jitsi freezing on non en-US input

#1

Further to the earlier post, the freezing seems to be a global issue, associated with national languages.
When I tried to type into a chat window when keyboard was switched into a non en-US encoding, application froze again.

What is required to enable NLS support?

Thank you
Alex

Здравствуйте, .

Yep, mine too - both on Win 7 x32 and x64. But I thought its a conflict with Punto Switcher application - every freeze was with EN\Ru or RU\EN switching by this app.... So it seems not only app conflict...

Interesting. Many of us use Jitsi with a Cyrillic layout daily and haven't
had this issue. Are you using Window's native layout support or some third
party application?

I did not know that there were 3d party applications. Just Windows. En/Ru and hang.

Hey Олег,

Do you also have the problem when using the native layout switcher on windows instead of punto?

Did some further testing on this box, which is my main Java dev env due to circumstances :frowning:
Most of our apps use Javafx GUI with JDK 1.8b120, but some are legacy Swing.
None of our apps experience anything like that and we cater to US, Mexico, Brazil, Poland, India, China and Japan users.
It seems Jitsi is compiled against JRE 1.7_45 which is our production JRE for the Swing apps too.

Just rebuilt some of our apps and tested KB switching right in this very box. They work fine.
However, there are other boxes where switching works fine. The only difference is that they are all 64bit (XP and Win7).
I simply don't have another 32 bit physical Windows env to confirm if this is related to machine word size :frowning:

There was this old discussion on the Oracle forums back in 2009: https://community.oracle.com/thread/1286547?start=0&tstart=0
Very well could be related.

Thank you
Alex

Indeed. Unfortunately there don't seem to be any indications there about
what could be causing the issue. There is *no* code in Jitsi that
explicitly handles layout changes.

Maybe you can make something out of this log. The freezing occurred between 12:11 and 12:26 I guess, where there is a gap in the log.
