[jitsi-users] Jitsi Desktop build 2.9.5541

#1

Hi everyone

In the last weeks, I did some polishing and cleanup on Jitsi Desktop. Build
2.9.5541 is now available with all these changes. Please update to it and
report bugs you may encounter.

Notable recent changes:
- The config service uses an embedded database by default
- Linux: no tray icon by default anymore. Supports AppIndicator if enabled
in Tools->Options->General
- Linux: no crash anymore after screensaver/desktop change/standby
- Some IPv6 improvements

If there are no (major) regressions, this will become the next stable build:
2.10.
Deadline for reports: before FOSDEM (i.e. February 3rd)

Still having the problem where video does not work. The preview window in Options just shows a black screen. This is happening on a Logitech C920 as well as the built-in camera on a Lenovo Y-50 laptop. Both systems are running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

I installed this as an upgrade to the previous stable version (2.8.5426). I'm wondering if I should try a complete removal of that version first. Any other troubleshooting suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

One additional item. Double clicking on the Jitsi icon in the system tray no longer opens it up. I have to right-click on the icon and select "Show"

There haven't been any changes to the video subsystem recently. As I said before, unfortunately, I don't have access to any other webcams than the one in my Thinkpad T420s to try anything.

I installed this as an upgrade to the previous stable version (2.8.5426).
I'm wondering if I should try a complete removal of that version first. Any

You can try removing the directory %localappdata%\jitsi\sip-communicator.bin, otherwise an upgrade is the same as a reinstall.

Thanks

Thanks, this will be fixed in build 5543.

Tried removing that directory, and then tried removing anything related to Jitsi from system for a totally clean install. Still have the black screen problem in Preview. The camera microphone works fine, and Jitsi is activating the camera as the blue lights turn on. Relevant log file entries are below....there is nothing but INFO entries in the log file. Is there a way to turn up debug logging?

I'll try to get my hands on a different webcam, but I can't promise anything. These things have become are a rare species since laptops have them built in...

Relevant log file entries
are below....there is nothing but INFO entries in the log file. Is there a
way to turn up debug logging?

You could edit %programfiles%\jitsi\lib\logging.properties, but I don't think there's anything useful to debug.

That's where I think this is something unique to my installs. The same thing happens on my Lenovo Y50 built-in camera. Both work fine with the prior stable build.

Not necessarily. There were changes in libjitsi affecting the video acquisition stuff:

https://github.com/jitsi/libjitsi/commit/d431682be6e8857edec60c6b779fd5d34bd8d800

But reverting that would break systems with ManyCam etc. again. Which is why I need to try other with other webcams than on my T420s.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the Windows 10 update 1607, when they brought the Camera Frame Server in?

http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/08/windows-10-anniversary-update-breaks-most-webcams/

My cameras do work with other utilities, though.

I doubt it, otherwise 2.8 wouldn't work either. And I'm on build 1607 too.

My cameras do work with other utilities, though.
