[jitsi-users] Jitsi client video settings

#1

I wonder if someone could clear something up for me:

I am looking at the video settings on a couple of clients because the video was described as poor quality.

Under options > video > more settings I see the following:

* Video resolution : Auto

* Custom frame rate : unchecked, 20 in grey

* RTP pacing threshold (kBytes/s) : 256

* Video bitrate (kilobits/s) : 128

A user had tried change the resolution to "1280x720", and reported that the picture quality improved a little, but the frame rate dropped to only a frame or two per second. They didn't adjust any other settings.

I reckon the Video bitrate is set far too low. The network is configured in the basis that each VTC client will stream at up to 6Mbps, so I think the Video bitrate should be set to 6000, or thereabouts. But what about the other setting "RTP pacing threshold"? What does this do? And if it should be changed what should it be changed too?

The "pacing" feature is to prevent spikes in the sent bitrate. If it is set too low it will cause problems. It should be relatively safe to set at high as the UI will allow you (999).
