[jitsi-users] jitsi and call to GoogleTalk: Could not find a resource which supports Jingle or Google Talk

#1

Hello,

I'm running Jitsi 2.8.5426 (installed via the RPM repository on my
Opensuse Tumbleweed (kernel 3.19.3-1-desktop #1 SMP
PREEMPT Thu Mar 26 17:34:34 UTC 2015 (f10e7fc) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux). test calls to SIP accounts work but when I try to call a
friend on his GooglTalk account, jitsi fails with the message

Failed to create the call. Failed to create outgoing call to
NAME@DOMAIN. Could not find a resource which supports Jingle or Google
Talk
(details below)

I could not find helpful hints (searching for the error message) via
Google. What resources should I add to support Jingle/GoogleTalk?
Would the library libjingle
https://code.google.com/p/libjingle
(not installed on my system) help? If so, were should I put it? Thank
you very much for your help.

best regards
Geza

Since Google switched Talk to Hangouts, it is no longer possible to create a call between Jitsi and Google Talk. While chatting over XMPP is still possible, Talk never used an open standard and as such we have no resources for continued reverse engineering. Calling between Gmail-addresses should work if both sides use Jitsi though.

I could not find helpful hints (searching for the error message) via

I just removed "Google Talk" from the error message, hopefully making it less confusing.
