[jitsi-users] jiti.si connection issue

#1

Hi there,

Is there some kind of maintenance now since my account on jit.si.is being offline in the last 30 minutes? All of the other accounts configured in jitsi client for other xmpp servers are working just fine. The version of jitsi that I use is the latest nightly build:
2.7.5416

Also is there an option for auto re-connect since from time to time when i disable and enable the account manually it connect for a moment?

Best Regards

#2

Yes, we have multiple short downtimes and we have some ongoing maintenance
work on the server, sorry for the inconvenience.

It auto reconnects after some time and on failure progressively increases
this auto connect retry time.

Thanks for the kind words!

As for the jit.si server, we have upgraded the Openfire yesterday and we
are now running Openfire 3.10.0 Beta. This plus switching to OpenJDK8
allowed us to easier fix the problems we had with weaker ciphers and
certificate trust.

There were short downtimes last evening and this morning (UTC) because of
automatic restarts -- our Munin triggered them when the system became
unusable due to extreme high CPU load peaks from Openfire. We contacted the
Openfire team and also upgraded to their latest code, which hopefully will
fix the problem.

Once again, sorry for the inconvenience! We are constantly monitoring the
service and if the load continues we will be taking measures to keep jit.si
operational.

Hi Yasen,

Is there a way to know the exact time that is set for the reconnect interval.Example if my account is down on jit.si at 12:00 what time it will try to reconnect automatically?

Best Regards

Keeping you posted, let me tell yo uthat we had another switch, this time
a downgrade from the beta to a previous stable version, 3.9.3. We had lot
of issues with high CPU usage and service locking with the newer version,
so now with the previous one plus the auto restarts on high load we hope it
will be better for all the users.
In fact it looks like it is more stable as we speak already.

It will try after X seconds, the first are randomly chosen between 2
and 4 seconds. After that it will retry after X*2 and so on, X*4, X*8
... till it reaches 300 secs. And then it just checks every 300 secs.

Thanks for the roll back. Throughout the week, I'd notice my
connection in Jitsi would suddenly die, forcing me to open up the
options to uncheck & check the offline box.

As a talented system admin, I'd hope you were monitoring the beta
openfire server to monitor anomalies like high CPU and attribute it to
the beta version.

I look forward to using the jitsi client and jitsi service uninterrupted today!

Yes, we have full-time monitoring and the load is in normal levels after
the rollback. It's been 6 hours after the downgrade, as of this writing.
Also the number of online users and the network activity is back to
previous levels, so we're at full speed. In case we hit peak cpu loads
again, we have an auto-restart procedure set up for the openfire service.
But I hope it won't come to that.

The reconnect plugin is OS independent, do you see any errors in the
logs when this happens?

Hum, when it starts it failed to connect and seems the problem with
the connection is throwing XMPPError where XMPPException was expected
... I will need to further check.
Seems the provider never got in Connectino_Failed state, and the
reconnect plugin failed to detect it and that's why didn't try to
reconnect it.
Will try to reproduce and fix it, thanks for the report.

Remember that the ReconnectPlugin only kicks in if the account has at least once successfully connected. Martin, can you confirm that you've been online with that jit.si account at least once?

Hi Ingo,

At first I tried do login in my jit.si accont but it failed then I just click ->disable ->enable a couple of times with not success to connect ,after a while I left it alone, then on my other computer that is using windows another jit.si acount was already online so I tried on my Linux PC disable ->enable again on my account (that was not able to connect before )and it connects just fine.BTW I'm online on my jitsi account while I'm typing.

Another thing currently on my Arch distro I'm using this release

and I can not see the Plug-ins tab in my jitsi client. Here is a screen of that.

Are you sure about that? I had the same connection problems this morning, but the exception all came from the ReconnectPlugin.

Seems the provider never got in Connectino_Failed state, and the
reconnect plugin failed to detect it and that's why didn't try to
reconnect it.

Remember that the ReconnectPlugin only kicks in if the account has at least once successfully connected. Martin, can you confirm that you've been online with that jit.si account at least once?

Will try to reproduce and fix it, thanks for the report.

Ingo
