[jitsi-users] Jabra Speak 510 with Jitsi

#1

Hello.

I'm new of Jitsi and I'm havingt a problem using it with a Jabra speaker
set.

I'm using Jitsi on Linux Debian (wheezy) and I have a Jabra Speak 510
UC speaker/microphone, connected to the Linux PC via USB port.

I want to accept incoming audio/video calls by pushing the green phone
button on the Jabra device, without having to click with the mouse on the
linux PC (in the application I'm working on, there is no keyboard or mouse
device connected to the PC) .

I tried it, but it doesn't work. I guess I have to do some configuration,
but I couldn't find anything in the settings which can help me.

Could you please help me, or point me to some documentation?

Thank you.
Ettore

In parallel with this post, I've also asked the question directly to Jabra
support. Here is their reply:

"Jitsi does not support HID commands for call control. Because the soft
phone does not currently support call control, there is no way to answer
the call from the Speak 510, or any other USB audio device you may try to
use with it. They would have to add HID device support to the Jitsi
softphone itself for that aspect to work."

Have you any comment on this? Is that true?
Any idea on what I can do?

Thank you.

Hey Ettore,

You can configure "Global shortcuts" in Jitsi for several actions,
including call pick up and hang up. This would work as long as the device
is HID compliant, which, for the devices I've tried, is not the case for
Jabra (which makes there comment very surprising to me).

Hi Emil,

thank you very much for your reply.
You mean if they are not HDI compliant, there is no alternative way of
making Jitsi aware that the user is pressing the button on the Jabra
device, correct?

If this is the case can you suggest me any alternative device that is HDI
compliant and works with Jitsi?

Thank you again.
