[jitsi-users] Issues related to the Mac port of Jitsi.

#1

Hello,

I ran into some issues with the latest nightly with Mac. Here is the list:

1. If I turn my webcam on I can never get it to turn back on unless I
restart the call.
2. If I'm on webcam and then turn on screen sharing it doesn't function and
I lose the ability to show my cam and screen share. The only solution I
have is to restart the call with the screen share option.
3. Sometimes when I turn my webcam on during a call my webcam goes behind
the video of the person I'm viewing and they have the same issue.

If I find any more I will let you know, but in the mean time the Mac
version needs a bit of work. It hasn't crashed yet *thumbs up* but these
issues remain.

Hi Joshua,
I can confirm most of your issues on my MacBook (OS 10.8.5) as well:
1) echo: just use a headset then problems with echo are gone (it is
enough if one peer uses headset)
2) video issues: normally I decide before if I will use only audio or
video call, if I push video during audiocall occasionally Jitsi crashed
(however not recently), only restart helped. Similarly, changing from
video call to screensharing and back sometimes does not work.

I can live with these little glitches, Jitsi client is great (OTR, zRTP)
and is my favorite messenger software since years.

As most of developers are now busy with jitsi-meet (after acquisition of
Jitsi by Atlassian), the development of Jitsi-client depends now mainly
on contributions from the community and volunteers (Ingo, Danny,
...THX!!!) - so you have to be a bit patient (or provide yourself
patches if you are able to).

Hello Smith.

It's good to know that some people know the issues exists and I agree it's
a great messaging client to use. I actually wouldn't mind contributing to
coding the software, but I only know how to do visual programming (Stencyl
and Fusion 2.5) for game development. I do know the basics of C and if I
could get hands on help to learn more I would be glad to work with the
team. I'm on El Capitan 10.11.2 and it hasn't crashed on me yet. As for
using a headset this can be a temporary fix, because when I used Skype,
Viber, and/or any other client I never needed a headset to cancel out the
echo. I guess for now we can work around the problems until they get fixed.
If someone could help me hands on to learn I would be glad to help fix the
problems, but for now I don't know anybody that would.

Hey

It's not really about the programming languages you know, but rather the amount of time you're willing to invest. If you know a bit of C, Java would come naturally.

As for the echo-cancellation, AFAIK this comes for free as part of the audio system on Windows and Linux, but not on Mac's CoreAudio and that's why it's missing.
