[jitsi-users] Issue with detecting removable audio devices (USB) [repost]

#1

[repost - my original message obviously never appeared on the mailing
list - very strange]

Dear all,

found yesterday that a friend could not hear me. We tried lots of
things, including installing the nightly build, because before
everything was working fine.

When I realized he had inbound traffic ("xx bps downstream") showing in
the info pane we moved from suspecting network issues to the audio part
and the codecs.

After about 40 minutes and endless calls we figured out that he had
sometime before unplugged his USB audio headset (dont ask me why he
uses 2 of them ;)) and Jitsi still was trying to output via this device.

In the audio setup pane it was still listed as valid device, and no
indication could be seen that this is no longer connected. List only
got updated when we switch the audio subsystem back and forth...

Is there any chance to see the unplug event or is this too low level
for the Java libs to see?

We usually do honor hotplug events and switch audio devices on the fly, even during a call. This time the event probably got lost. You didn't mention your platform, but our PortAudio stack on Linux is not as stable as the the ones on Windows or Mac.
