[jitsi-users] Issue with apt-get update

#1

Hi,

Since installing Jitsi under Ubuntu 11.04, I've been having issues with
updating. When running "sudo apt-get update" from the command line, the
following lines appear with regard to Jitsi:

Ign http://download.jitsi.org unstable/
InRelease
Ign http://download.jitsi.org unstable/ Release.gpg
Ign http://download.jitsi.org unstable/ Release
Ign http://download.jitsi.org unstable/ Packages/DiffIndex
Ign http://download.jitsi.org unstable/ Translation-en_US
Ign http://download.jitsi.org unstable/ Translation-en
Err http://download.jitsi.org unstable/ Packages

Err http://download.jitsi.org unstable/ Packages
  Undetermined Error
Fetched 14.6 MB in 3min 2s (80.0 kB/s)
W: Failed to fetch http://download.jitsi.org/deb/unstable/Packages
Undetermined Error

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones
used instead.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Or how to resolve it?

Your hard drive is not full, correct? Try "df -h" and see... Also, go into /var/cache/apt/archives/partial and clear it out. Then try again.

Hey George,

Can you try replacing the http inthe Jitsi update URL with https?

(what's weird though is the fact that you seem to retrieve more than half
of the binary before abandoning)

To follow up, I edited (as root) /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jitsi.list and
changed "http" to "https".

Now, running sudo apt-get update at the command line returns the following
lines (with regard to Jitsi):

Ign https://download.jitsi.org unstable/
InRelease
Hit https://download.jitsi.org unstable/
Release.gpg
Hit https://download.jitsi.org unstable/
Release
Hit https://download.jitsi.org unstable/
Packages
Ign https://download.jitsi.org unstable/
Translation-en_US
Ign https://download.jitsi.org unstable/
Translation-en

Ubuntu's GUI Update Manager previously choked when checking for updates.
After changing "http" to "https" it no longer does. However, it doesn't
seem to be retrieving the latest build. I continue to have v.
1.1-nightly.build.4023.

With regard to Lee's question, indeed, the hard drive has plenty of free
space, and /var/cache/apt/archives/partial was empty.
