[jitsi-users] Is this possible - create static rooms for specific departments?

#1

Hello,

Here's the scenario - I'd like to know if this is possible using either
video-bridge and meet, or bridge and the desktop component. Any thoughts or
assistance appreciated!

I'd like to create series of chat rooms or private chat groups for
departmental staff. IE - Marketing, Support, etc. Each one would be run by
the departmental manager, who would allow other users into the chat. Is
something even close to this possible?

If it is possible, I would also like the manager to be able to record chat
sessions and have the recording end up in a specific location, like his home
directory on the Jitsi Server. Is that possible?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Steve,

I believe what you're looking for are server-side features of an XMPP
server, which is outside of what the suite of Jitsi tools provides. An XMPP
server like Openfire[1] has the sort of management features you're looking
for.

Just to clarify how the projects fit together a bit:
- Jitsi Desktop is multi-procotol chat/voice/video client, and can connect
to an XMPP server
- Jitsi Meet / Video Bridge is a video conferencing solution with a SIP
audio/video bridge, and video streaming bridge. While it pre-configures an
XMPP server (Prosody) on installation, it does not have server management
features. It can also connect to another XMPP server instead of the
pre-configured one it installs

If what you are looking for a complete open source Slack-like clone that
bundles all of this up in an easy-to-use package with desktop and mobile
clients, you are likely looking for something like Rocket.Chat or Lattermost
