[jitsi-users] How to call SIP URI (sip:200901@login.zipdx.com) from Jitsi

#1

I was wondering if it's possible to call the weekly VOIP Users Conference SIP URI at "sip:200901@login.zipdx.com". I can't figure out how to make a direct call from Jitsi to the VUC Conference. Was trying to avoid using 60 minutes of time on my VOIP Provider by making a direct SIP call.

I've tried setting up some kind of registrarless account, but can't figure it out. Has anybody else been able to do this?

Thanks.

I can do it from my sipXcom system using Jitsi desktop client...

You need a sip proxy that can handle NAT and be able to route that traffic.

Just so you know, that's 60 free minutes. Your provider definitely
should not be charging for that time or any sip calls you make.

It _might_ work with a registrarless account if you're not behind a NAT or firewall. I don't know if anybody ever tried it. The registrarless accounts are mostly a playground (because of these NAT problems).

Thanks.

So I need something in addition to Jitsi and the ZipDX site. I was hoping for something a bit more direct than that. Thanks for the info.

I am behind a router which has NAT. I got around the problem by configuring my Asterisk/FreePBX phone system. There seems to be two easy ways of doing this way.

hello john,
you can make a direct sip call without registration. add a sip account in
jitsi, when you are asked for a username just write your name (without
domain) and nothing more, then click on save. after that you can dial out
to an sip address. many years ago i did a small screencast for that, here
you can find the video on youtube: https://youtu.be/v1X1Kz6UsbI
you can skip the first minute because it´s just about the installation
process.
best,
thomas
