[jitsi-users] Head-set

#1

Hi all,

Perhaps slightly off-topic, but perhaps someone has tried it before.

Some college's are thinking about buying some headsets, the Plantronics Blackwire 520.
For a sip/xmpp communication, and they want to know in advance "if that works" (manager-talk)

I'm pretty sure that any usb-headset will work under Ubuntu-14.04, but I believe the device has some buttons on it.
-probably audio-control (louder/softer/mute) will probably be done on the headset itself, but the other, I'm worried about.
It is probably for accepting incoming calls.

Obviously contacting the manufacturer is pointless. With the prospect of selling "any device is fully supported"

So, Is there anybody around here that uses this blackwire-520 in combination with Jitsi?

Hans

Assuming the device is "basically" supported by ubuntu, the volume buttons should work out of the box. The problem you will be facing is the "hook" button to answer calls.
AFAIK there is no support yet in Jitsi, but you could work around it.
I was trying to write a plugin to use any USB HID event (i.e. a button press on some input device) as a shortcut for answering calls.
Sadly I failed because Jitsi is using some older versions os required libraries.

Long story short: I wrote a little Java application that can convert any USB HID event into a keystroke. You can emulate e.g. Shift+Ctrl+F12 and configure Jitsi to accept calls on that shortcut.

Interested?

Kind regards,
Peter
