[jitsi-users] Gtalk (Android 2.3.4) unable to call jabber-account on jitsi

#1

Hi devs!

So android's (2.3.4) Gtalk app does _not_ seem to expose its
audio-capability to jabber clients. Tested with the N900 and Jitsi.
Almost certainly the same for all other jabber clients.
聽聽But the Gtalk app _is_ able to call the N900! (a little weird, but
works!) I just did my first jabber-call from phone to phone now  I
haven't tested with Empathy yet, but most likely, Gtalk can also call
Empathy.

Not so for Jitsi. Gtalk cannot call jitsi. The xmpp-jingle/gtalk issue
confuses me a little so I only wanted to tell you that and check whether
this is the intended outcome here! I'd be glad for any confirmation.

I know you are working on Gtalk support and I think I already saw it pop
up in the latest builds. What will that exactly be? Will I be able to
talk to the Gtalk app only if I use a Gtalk-account in Jitsi? Or when I
use a standard XMPP account as well, like on the N900?

thanks!

I believe Android's Gtalk application still uses the Google version of jingle (which is not compatible with standard jingle we implement).

N900 (and Empathy) has support for GTalk protocol via libnice. So it is normal it works with these softwares.

Not so for Jitsi. Gtalk cannot call jitsi. The xmpp-jingle/gtalk issue
confuses me a little so I only wanted to tell you that and check whether
this is the intended outcome here! I'd be glad for any confirmation.

We have commit some work on GTalk support in Jitsi recently but it is not enabled by default. To enable you can use command line "ant run -Dgtalktesting=true" or add in the sip-communicator.properties the following line: net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.gtalktesting=true
Normally you can use any jabber account to call GTalk application but please note that you will not be able to use Google's TURN and STUN servers.

Please note that GTalk support is still in development.
