[jitsi-users] Good Gtalk-news for Jitsi!

Hi!

As you devs are working on Gtalk support in order to get an 1.0 release
out, I think you can just stop that effort, remove all Gtalk code
including the seperate login-fields and declare Gtalk support as done:
http://xmppjingle.blogspot.com/2011/06/standard-jingle-on-google.html

... am I wrong? or is Gtalk really becoming just another Jabber Server,
therefore not worth seperating from XMPP-login. For what I heard, google
will roll that out pretty quickly.

thanks

Unfortunately yes. I already commented on this once the dev mailing
list: http://goo.gl/zIL9t

Basically, while this is an awesome direction for Google to take, it is
just a small part of all that needs to be done for full interoperability.

Google developers have claimed on the Jingle list that there is
intention to get there eventually, but I haven't heard of any ETAs. My
guess is that the really tricky parts, the ones that took and are taking
us considerable time and effort, will continue to be there for quite a
while. Not to mention that apparently the GTalk windows client is not
getting updated at all and that alone is reason enough for supporting
the Google Jingle dialect.

Cheers,
Emil

I have a question.

Currently one can enter a Google Talk account in Jitsi but one can not
declare an account to be a Google Talk account.

Should it not be like that: All accounts are normal Jabber accounts but
one can state that a contact added to such an account is a Google Talk
account?

In fact it would perhaps be even more complex (or easier). The contact
could use the obsolete Google Talk software but he could also use a
standard conforming client such as Jitsi - who knows? Ideally Jitsi
would find out automatically and use the appropriate protocols. Would
that be possible?

Cheers,
Andreas

What would be the point? The difference between a GTalk and a Jabber account
are pretty much just the icons and a few default param values. If you
managed to create a Jabber account you'd etter just stick with it.
