[jitsi-users] Fwd: web based jitsi - developer?

#1

Hello:

I was wondering if someone may be able to help me out. I'm an attorney and
I'm trying to stay ahead of the game in terms of technology. Among other
things, I'm looking to incorporate video chat on my site. I, however, want
this chat to be completely web based without the user having to download a
plug in.

Is this possible on Jitsi? If so, do you know anyone that may have the
skills to create this for me? I'm getting quotes from freelancers on these
different sites but no one has a real sense of what platforms would be
best. I've been doing some research and it looks like Jitsi may work for
me - however, I just wanted to confirm.

Jitsi Meet was recommended to me - can someone confirm? Can anyone contact
me directly if they can help me implement this on my site - please in your
email let me know how much it will cost.

Please let me know when you have a moment.

Thank you for your time.

Your need has been envisioned by Google and Mozila in 2011, that's why
they created a solution called WebRTC:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebRTC

WebRTC is the name of the standard, and there are many clients
implementing it. meet.jit.si is one of them, but there are many
others, like Apache Openmeetings for example.

WebRTC is your best choice, it is very cheap to implement and it is a
standard, it is a very undervalued technology that has very big
future, invest today and you will not be disappointed.

Good luck.

You should try out https://meet.jit.si to see if you like it. It works just
fine in Chrome browser without downloading any plugins. It even works on my
Android phone without having to install anything.

I am a security professional who has a desire for a solid videoconferencing
system which is easy to use and protects the content of my conversations.
After looking at a bunch of options, I settled on Jitsi Meet. I like the
architecture and the fact that you can rerun your own server, which allows
verifying the security claims much more easily.

Since you have a duty to protect communications with your clients, I would
recommend having someone audit your website to make sure everything is
configured properly (e.g. it's using strong encryption, perhaps you don't
want it logging the IP addresses of your clients, etc.). The specific
things an auditor will look for depend on your goals. Are you OK with
employees of your internet provider seeing and hearing all your
conversations? What about the people who work for your website hosting
company? If any of your clients are in countries which have repressive
governments which monitor their citizens, that's something to consider.

The freelancer who sets up your system should be able to explain how
everything works, what is private (encrypted) and what is not, and so forth.

Best of luck,
Adam

Yes, it's what Jitsi Meet is made for. Also the communication is
secure and you won't be worrying about someone eavesdropping.

If so, do you know anyone that may have the skills to create this for

That's what I do, I wrote you another mail off-list.
