1. Make it possible to see a little window of the partners video while
focusing on another window (stay always on top: maybe with some
transparency?)

2. Make an option to only get a message notification sound when chat
window is NOT focused. Also then dont play the sound for every message
like:

"Ok." -sent "I will do this and that" -sent "hello?" -sent "are you
there?" -sent....

I would recommend to play a certain sound every 2-3 (make it changeable,
too?) minutes until the new message is read. That helps to get a
notification when you go somewhere else and then come back. And also its
not disturbing when you just dont have the time to look for the message
(eg. you are cooking)

Hello,

IN recent versions (now 1.1.4310.10045), google talk doesnt work well. The zrtp exchange happens in about 1 minute (if at all), during which time only one party hears the other. Every time single time i hear the other, but they dont hear me at all until the zrtp negociation is complete.
I tried disabling zrtp but it was exactly the same - i heard the other side but they didnt hear me.
There is something wrong with this zrtp negociation setup, i understand both sides should hear the other during negociation, but in my case i always hear the other and they never hear me.

These appear in the logs during negociation:

16:53:32.494 WARNING: org.ice4j.stack.NetAccessManager.handleFatalError() Removing connector:ice4j.Connector@/192.168.100.100:33732/tcp status: running

  at org.ice4j.stack.Connector.run(Connector.java:175)
  at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:679)

Maybe related, but clicking the "tools" menu has a few seconds (sometimes 30 sec or even few minutes) lag on opening after clicked during talk and sometimes there are multiple "create video bridge" entries on it. During which time the whole ui is frozen (all open Jitsi-related windows), clicks are not registering, not even the window close buttons. This sometimes persists after a call.

All in all if you use google talk, Jitsi isnt stable anymore.

The logs are filled with these:

Hey Emil

Feature Request:

1. When you mute the microfon Jitsi should stop streaming the audio and
instead use it for a better video quality.

You get this already with both SILK and Opus.

How?

You just do. It's automatic as long as you use SILK or Opus.

2. It should be possible to videochat with Jitsi even if people have
DSL2000 or less. It is possible in Skype without cracking and drop outs.
It is so annoying.

Have you tried reducing your resolution and frame rate?

Yes I did.

Well, I get pretty decent 640x480 video with an adsl. I am not sure why
this is not the case for you. Maybe things will get better once we add VP8.

THank you so far for your help.
ANd thank you for this nice piece of software.

Thanks for your kind words.

Cheers,
Emil

Hey Kertesz.

Hello,

IN recent versions (now 1.1.4310.10045), google talk doesnt work well.
The zrtp exchange happens in about 1 minute (if at all), during which
time only one party hears the other. Every time single time i hear the
other, but they dont hear me at all until the zrtp negociation is complete.
I tried disabling zrtp but it was exactly the same - i heard the other
side but they didnt hear me.

Yes, that's to be expected. As I've explained before: the delay you
experience is not due to ZRTP. ZRTP is simply suffering from the same
delay/problem as RTP.

There is something wrong with this zrtp negociation setup, i understand
both sides should hear the other during negociation, but in my case i
always hear the other and they never hear me.

See above.

By the way since we've had this discussion several times already and you
don't seem to take my word for it. Next time it happens could you please
run Wireshark and check what's happening with RTP streams on both sides
of the conversation?

Sending entire logs would also help although we probably won't have the
time to look into this in the very near future.

These appear in the logs during negociation:

16:53:32.494 WARNING:
org.ice4j.stack.NetAccessManager.handleFatalError() Removing
connector:ice4j.Connector@/192.168.100.100:33732/tcp status: running
java.net.SocketException: read failed
  at
org.ice4j.socket.DelegatingSocket.receiveFromNetwork(DelegatingSocket.java:892)
  at org.ice4j.socket.DelegatingSocket.receive(DelegatingSocket.java:834)
  at org.ice4j.socket.MultiplexingSocket.receive(MultiplexingSocket.java:350)
  at org.ice4j.socket.MultiplexingSocket.receive(MultiplexingSocket.java:292)
  at org.ice4j.socket.MultiplexedSocket.receive(MultiplexedSocket.java:135)
  at
org.ice4j.socket.IceTcpSocketWrapper.receive(IceTcpSocketWrapper.java:84)
  at org.ice4j.stack.Connector.run(Connector.java:175)
  at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:679)

Maybe related, but clicking the "tools" menu has a few seconds
(sometimes 30 sec or even few minutes) lag on opening after clicked
during talk and sometimes there are multiple "create video bridge"
entries on it. During which time the whole ui is frozen (all open
Jitsi-related windows), clicks are not registering, not even the window
close buttons. This sometimes persists after a call.

Right, that's due to Jitsi Videobridge discovery. We'll fix it shortly.

All in all if you use google talk, Jitsi isnt stable anymore.

Yup ... that's unfortunately true and again, we are in the middle of too
many things right now so this may take a while to fix. Unfortunately the
issue is likely to reoccur as long as Google's service is evolving.
Hopefully once they arrive at jingle compatibility it will stabilize to
some extent. Until then we'll do our best to follow.

Hey Kertesz,

Maybe related, but clicking the "tools" menu has a few seconds
(sometimes 30 sec or even few minutes) lag on opening after clicked
during talk and sometimes there are multiple "create video bridge"
entries on it. During which time the whole ui is frozen (all open
Jitsi-related windows), clicks are not registering, not even the window
close buttons. This sometimes persists after a call.

Right, that's due to Jitsi Videobridge discovery. We'll fix it shortly.

I've just committed some fixes for the misbehaviour of the Video Bridge menu (r10049). Let me know if you still experience any issues there.

Cheers,
Yana

1. Make it possible to see a little window of the partners video while
focusing on another window (stay always on top: maybe with some
transparency?)

We have something similar here:

https://jitsi.org/index.php/GSOC/AlwaysOnTopCallDialog

It doesn't say anything about video though. Not sure exactly when we
would be able to look at this but just so that we don't forget about it,
could you open a feature request combining the "always on top dialog"
described above and adding to it the point about also doing the same
with video?

2. Make an option to only get a message notification sound when chat
window is NOT focused.

Could you please open a feature request for this?

Also then dont play the sound for every message
like:

"Ok." -sent "I will do this and that" -sent "hello?" -sent "are you
there?" -sent....

I believe user expectations lean toward the opposite (the behaviour that
we currently have). Most major messaging applications behave that way.

I would recommend to play a certain sound every 2-3 (make it changeable,
too?) minutes until the new message is read. That helps to get a
notification when you go somewhere else and then come back. And also its
not disturbing when you just dont have the time to look for the message
(eg. you are cooking)

How about when you are sleeping? There used to be some mobile phones out
there that did this. That was quite annoying. I don't think we'd like to
do this.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Cheers,
Emil

Well, I get pretty decent 640x480 video with an adsl. I am not sure why
this is not the case for you. Maybe things will get better once we add
VP8.

Hey Yana,

I noticed some changes: first, I can since the latest nightly (4312) call a gmail contact. Or at least I see the telephone icon. When trying to call I get the following error msgs (this is on OS X 10.8.2):

Hope this helps, thanks for the patches,

Encryption isn't. Video encoding however is.

I noticed some changes: first, I can since the latest nightly (4312) call a gmail contact. Or at least I see the telephone icon. When trying to call I get the following error msgs (this is on OS X 10.8.2):

Hope this helps, thanks for the patches,
steve

Cheers,
Yana

Hi Steve,

Do you experience these problems with all your accounts or with a specific one (Jabber, Google Talk, MSN, etc. )? Does this problem appear all the time for all messages or it is specific for example for messages that are shown when you open a chat? Do you see this in history window?

Cheers,
Yana

One more:

Does this happen with all your contacts or just this one (it does seem
like this is caused by the content they are sending to you).

Hey Yana and Emil,

first off: sorry for choosing the worst subject line ever. I was going to change that before sending - but forgot.

I myself am using jit.si and jabber.org accounts. And this is only happening when communicating with a gmail user. Communication with other jit.si and jabber.org users is working fine.

This is the same users which has the strange font formatting in the chat window (bigger than the usual font) and only his messages.

Hope this can be tracked down.

My use case: OS X 10.8.2, jabber + jit.si
Contact: OS X 10.8.2, messages app (apple), gmail (xmpp)

All the best,
steve
