It doesn't seem to be specifically XMPP related.
Regularly, I get this on *a* (my) contact list when starting.
Up to now I haven't been able to pinpoint what triggers this and given that I usually start a version that I've changed and built,

We have a situation with Jitsi where occasionally the contacts list is populated with exactly double the users. Entering any search
in the filter box and then returning to the contact list usually cleans this up, so does disabling and re-enabling the XMPP contact
Below is a screenshot of this very issue.
