[jitsi-users] conference-/room name

#1

hello,

there seem to restrictions on the characters in the conference-/room
name. when composing a room name containig an invalid character, a '404
not found' will be displayed.

what are the legal characters? it would be nice if there would be a hint
on the welcome page and a hint when an illegal character (-+,..) is in
the name instead of a 404.

regards, gustav

it will be nice to have a code that remove special character on the room box

i found this, i don't know if it can help

<script type="text/javascript"> // Formatage d'un champs mail function valid_mail(evt) { var keyCode = evt.which ? evt.which : evt.keyCode; var interdit = 'àâäãçéèêëìîïòôöõùûüñ &*?!:;,\t#~"^¨%$£?²¤§%*()]{}<>|\\/`\''; if (interdit.indexOf(String.fromCharCode(keyCode)) >= 0) { return false; } } </script>

room name validation is essential because when a person tries to create
a meeting and places an illegal character in the name a 404 error will
occur and the person will refrain (espacially when it's the first
contact to jitsi) from using jitsi meet in the future because he or she
will think, jitsi meet is broken. (i could explain to a technican but
not to a secratary, a sales person, .. the latter ar just not interested
in any technical details.)

as it's not hard to add basic room name validation and i'm tired of
merging my code every time an upgrade is available, i would like to
contribute these lines of code. would this be ok?

I think that's something we'd like to have, but right now it is unclear what the best way to do it is (do we throw an error, do we automatically remove not-allowed characters).

Boris

hello boris,

what about just popping up a dialog box stating that an illegal
character is in the room name (e.g. "Illegal Character in Room Name")
and giving a hint for a leagal names (e.g. ""A valid room name may
contain only letters, digits, + signs and = -characters.") . upon
clicking ok, the user is directed back to the jitsi meet start form and
he can try another name.

what do you think?
