[jitsi-users] Chat history / view messed up and weird views about XMPP

#1

Hi,

I tried to send a message to an offlien contact in Jitsi on Android
today.

What happened immediately is that I got a huge fat red message stating
that thsi cannot be done because the protocoll does not allow offline
messages.

Apart from that being a blatant lie, things got weirder then, because I
saw this information in *all* opened chat windows, including the
outgoing message I tried to send - both were appended to the chat view
in all open chat windows, *and* the outgoing message was duplicated in
the chat view of the original conversation.

The latter is clearly a bug, but concerning the idea that XMPP does not
allow offline messages - where does that come from?

Cheers,
Nik

XMPP supports offline messages, and the protocol provider in Jitsi
also supports this. But some errors that come from the server, for not
being able to deliver the message are treated with error which says
offline message not supported, in case the contact we send message to
is offline.
The logs and especially the pcap file can prove this.

hmm, I tried again today and found that I can send messages to offline
contacts without problems.

Is it possible that the error was caused by an ongoing OTR session
rather than XMPP? In that case, the message should be a bit clearer
about that.

What remains is that the error was added to all chat windows, together
with the sent message. Should I open a bug report about that?
