[jitsi-users] BSOD when launching Jitsi 1.0 stable under Windows XP

#1

Hi!

Every time I launch Jitsi 1.0 stable (with the latest Java 1.7 installed) under Windows XP, after about 10 seconds of waiting for the program to load, I get the BSOD with the message "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal". I tested both the stable and the nightly build (using Java 1.6) about 2 months ago, and the issue was the same. However, I don't have such problem under Windows 7 x64 or Linux Mint 11.

Do you have any suggestions on this?

Zsolti

Interesting.

Nothing a java application can do should trip up the OS enough to
throw a BSOD. This sounds like a JRE or Windows bug, but it would be
interesting to figure out which Jitsi calls make the JRE confuse
Windows.

Sorry can't offer more concrete help - perhaps enable/check JRE logs
and Windows system logs? Oracle and Microsoft are the most likely
sources of information here.

Hi,

I am using Jitsi on XP quite fine. And BSOD would suggest problem in
drivers, and jitsi does not contain any drivers on its own.

Any more details in the BSOD, like which driver (sys file) caused the
crash? Try checking drivers for audio/video devices for updates, maybe
newer version would work better?

Hi!

Thanks for your suggestions! I've managed to figure it out: P17.sys was in the error message, which belongs to the sound card driver for Creative SB Live 24-bit, so an update of it did the trick.

By the way, it was quite a surprise because this is the first time there was a problem specifically with this driver on Windows XP.
