[jitsi-users] barcode provisioning Jitsi Android

#1

Hi,

Would it be difficult to implement barcode provisioning (QR codes) for Jitsi Android versions?
Something like this:

Actually, to make things simpler and since Jitsi already has provisioning via HTTP, one could setup a web server to generate a QR code which codes the HTTP uri. So the Android device only needs to read this URI from the barcode and pass it to Jitsi (via QR code scanning library).

Maybe this could be generalized and any Jitsi version (including desktop) could accept a provisioning URI on the command line which would override any pre-defined provisioning URI.

I don't really need this feature at the moment because current Jitsi provisioning is excellent. Any thoughts? Is it worth the time/effort?

Thanks,

Hi,

I can see where this would be useful in a work environment. Even for
company issued phones. The person configuring the phone could just call up
a webpage on the company's internal web and get a barcode image to scan
with the phone.

Also, there is at least one barcode library for Android that supports many
kinds of barcode (I used to have an app on my tablet to read barcode and
display the information). I generally prefer DataMatrix instead of QR
because the data density is higher. (The app on my tablet had no trouble
reading DataMatrix from any orientation.)

Maybe this could be generalized and any Jitsi version (including desktop)
could accept a provisioning URI on the command line which would override
any pre-defined provisioning URI.

Not sure how useful this would be, but seems it would be easy to implement.
