[jitsi-users] Audio Call from N900 to Jitsi doesn't quite work as it should

#1

Hi!

I tested this with different Jitsi Windows installations:

When I Jabber-Call Jitsi from my Nokia N900, the person using Jitsi
_doesn't_ hear me. However, I (on the calling N900) hear the other
person (at Jitsi) very well.

When the person using Jitsi calls me, everything is fine.

I'm not exactly sure what stack the N900 uses, but it must be similar to
a typical GNOME desktop. I'll test if the same issue exists with
Empathy, soon.

Known issue?

thanks!

Hi Martin,

Can you post your logs (http://www.jitsi.org/index.php/Documentation/FAQ#logs).

We will try to test on my N900 by the end of the week. I remember that it works fine some month ago.

FYI, the stack used by N900 should the same as Empathy (gabble, libnice, farsight, ...).

Regards,

Hi Martin,

I have just tested a jabber call from Jitsi to a N900 and from a N900 to Jitsi on the same LAN (with Wi-Fi interface). And I see no problems (sound on both side). BTW I have the N900 with PR1.3 and CSSU updates.

Having a look on your logs can help if you still have issues.

I reproduced the issue using the exact same N900's setup and todays
nightly build of jitsi for win32. Logs've been posted. I hope that helps.

Hi Martin,

All appears normal in your logs. However if you send us your pcap traces (same location as Jitsi text logs), maybe we can investigate more.

Hi Martin,

We fix a problem in ice4j but it is was related more or less to UPnP. But as we see in your logs you don't gather any address via UPnP.

So I continue to investigate and when using iLBC codec it still does not work. By unticking iLBC codec in Jitsi's sound configuration, it works fine. Other solution that works is to disable iLBC on N900 by editing /etc/stream-engine/gstcodecs.conf and add "id=-1" after "[audio/iLBC]" line to have something like:
[audio/iLBC]
id=-1
mode=30
clock-rate=8000

Note that when Jitsi call N900, it does not use iLBC codec in the pcap traces you sent to me (IIRC it uses PCMA/U).

So it seems that our iLBC decoder does not support iLBC flow sent by N900 (maybe it is related to the mode used: 30). We will try to investigate more on this in the following weeks.
