[jitsi-users] A portable version might be helpful

#1

Hi folks!
I love Jitsi, thank you for giving it to the world!
Well, I recently recommended Jitsi at a german blog
(http://stadt-bremerhaven.de/jitsi-open-source-messenger)
and it turned out that most people, though apparently interested in an alternative to Pidgin, Miranda & Co, wouldn't give it a try, because there is no portable version.
Maybe an installer version is an obstacle to checking out a new messenger once a user got used to a portable messaging application.
So what do you think about providing a portable version?
Cheers,

Thanks for your kind words and for spreading the word!

There was already a suggestion about creating a version compliant with
portableapps.com and we agreed it is a good idea. There is nothing in
Jitsi that would make installation absolutely mandatory. The "ant run"
in our build.xml for example allows using the client after only
downloading the source code package (provided one has the proper java
installation).

If anyone is interested in working on that we would be more than happy
to integrate it.

Cheers,
Emil
