[jitsi-users] A photo instead of the webcam

#1

Is it possible to define the path to a photo instead of the webcam for a
video call?

Hi Al,

now we don't have currently such an option and is not currently on the
roadmap. We had once a project for this in gsoc program but lately
more advance video features find their way into the project as desktop
streaming and desktop sharing and more to come.

Hi,

on windows there is a software that you can get there :

http://splitcamera.com/download.html

it s a freeware but not a free software (no source available).

It allows you to choose image, webcam, desktop screen or movie file (I think it even should be possible to send a tv programm through a sip video communication but not tested)

Regards

Paul

ps : I think you have to choose custom software installation or you get some default websearch you don't want.

Hi Damian,

I vote for this feature. Most times I don't want a live video or have
no webcam available, but a photo would be nice to see. Couldn't a photo
directed to the input device of the webcam? I think this shouldn't be a
lot work to code.

I am very new to jitsy, so I never tried desktop streaming. At the
moment I don't have an idea how to do this, but I will read more of the
docs ASAP.

Hi Damian,

I vote for this feature.

Thanks. For the record, patches are welcome.

Most times I don't want a live video or have
no webcam available, but a photo would be nice to see.

In calls, Jitsi would show you your peer's avatar if they have one.
Wouldn't this be a better option than continuously streaming the same
content?

Couldn't a photo
directed to the input device of the webcam?

Sure, it could.

I think this shouldn't be a
lot work to code.

Depends on the point of view. It's more than we can currently afford to
allocate on this feature, but then again, we'd probably be able to spare
the amount necessary to integrate a patch that implements it.

I am very new to jitsy, so I never tried desktop streaming. At the

docs ASAP.

Oh yes ... the docs ... well unfortunately, other than the developer's
documentation we don't currently have a lot of those. Until we do you
should simply click on the desktop sharing button in your call panel.

Cheers,
Emil
