Jitsi reactions (emoji reactions) does not work properly

Hi all

I have updated Jitsi to the latest version for two environments. I encountered the same problem with both.

The reactions are visible in the menubar (below) and can also be used. However, the problem is that only the person using these reactions sees them (such as Laugh, Clap, etc.). All other participants do not see each other’s reactions. Disabling the reaction altogether and enabling it again has done nothing.

Is this a known problem?

jitsi-meet 2.0.6826-1
jitsi-videobridge2 2.1-607-g153f7e4e-1

Thanks!

Does the websocket connection to the bridge work?

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

How can I check this?

Check the browser console log

ctrl + shift + j

is that perhaps the problem?

Nope

Having the same issue after upgrading jitsi-meet from 2.0.6726-1 to 2.0.7001-1 (using prosody 0.11.9). Reactions had worked before. Now only the creator can see them on his/her screen, there is no sound.

I am not seeing any websocket errors, but in the console I get:

Add this to your config.js:

disableReactions: false,

disableReactions: false, does not make a difference, it seems like an additional channel is missing to transport the reaction sound & video.

If websockets are not working you should see other things not working: no blue line around current speaker in tile mode for example. Do you see that ?

Yes, websockets have not been working. It seems that we relied on another transport protocol in the previous release, now it looks like websocket is the only signalling path from clients to the JVB.

After some debugging with nginx conf I found out that for multiple JVBs as described by @emrah here the proxy did not work as expected. I had used as server-id = “bridge0” instead of the JVB’s IP address which then did not resolve to the bridge. I ended up in defining for each bridge a separate proxy rule (and will fix the server-id later).

Now websocket communication works as expected and reactions are shown at all clients.
