jitsi.org vs jit.si (vs jitsi.im) ?

#1

Hey folks,

We are currently working on a soft site revamp and once we are done, we
will be ready to do the switch to our new Jitsi name. Hopefully Sunday
or beginning of next week.

At this point the plan is to use "jitsi.org" as our primary domain name.
jit.si will also be available for things like posters, stickers,
microblogging, and such.

As I said, this is only the plan so I wanted to hear opinions. For
example, does anyone think we should only use "jit.si" and not
"jitsi.org"? We also have jitsi.im so maybe others would prefer that one?

I'd particularly appreciate at least partially objective arguments (i.e.
not just "I really love jit.si" ... because we all do ;D )

Cheers,
Emil

Jitsi is more than just IM, so I would counsel against that one (but it
might be a nice place to run an IM service if you please).

What is .si? It sounds like "jit? yes!" in Spanish.

Internal domains are more likely to trigger spam filters... Sigh...

Well, someeone with FOSS exposure would guess jitsi.org - as most projects have their name.org as primary address for the information pages.

jitsi.im or/and jitsi.net look suitable for all infrastucture addresses - such as (future) turn/jingle-node, XMPP servers, user directories whatsover

I'd particularly appreciate at least partially objective arguments (i.e.
not just "I really love jit.si" ... because we all do ;D )

As Peter mentioned - it doesn't sound so good in Spanish / Spanglish. Remember the Pajero.

Conrad

I believe that for an open-source project jitsi.org is superior to "jit.si" or "jit.im". People expect .org addresses for open-source projects.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Seems like most of you were in favour of jitsi.org so that's what we'll
go for.

Cheers,
Emil

Then I guess "jitsi.net" which may translate to "jitsi? no!" in
Russian doesn't sound so good...
