Jitsi meet: why is there a limit on playing youtube videos?

I was looking at some old messages and it appears that youtube streaming sessions for over 1.5 hours is not allowed because of streaming costs.

I know streaming costs are high, but my understanding is that when users collectively watch a youtube video the video is not actually transmitted through the users servers OR Jitsi and it is merely a “synchronized playback” of the video - or each user pulls his own video directly from youtube servers.

Am I missing something here?

Not I’m not requesting an increase in the youtube streaming limit. I’m merely confused why it is restricted if none of the video is being actually streamed and it is merely a synchronized player.
