Jitsi-meet ios client receiving "Bridge Channel send: no opened channel." when trying to join a Jitsi meeting

I’ve used the latest jitsi-meet source files and i’m testing building the ios app, but receive the following error when testing via simulator.

2019-07-18 02:00:12.588 [error][tid:com.facebook.react.JavaScript] ‘[modules/RTC/BridgeChannel.js]’, ': ', 'Bridge Channel send: no opened channel.'

2019-07-18 02:00:19.936 [error][tid:com.facebook.react.JavaScript] ‘[modules/RTC/BridgeChannel.js]’, ': ', 'Bridge Channel send: no opened channel.'

Is there anything I need to explicitly do to open a channel via the client? What logs should I check? I see reference to JVB logs in another ticket?
