[jitsi-dev] XMPP workings: do sent messages get repeated for other logged in sessions/chat clients?

#1

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me whether a sent message gets repeated on other
instances of the same account?

What I mean is, let's say I am logged in to an XMPP account with Jitsi
and some other client. Both are active at the same time.
Now I send some message with the other client, would I get a repeat of
my own message on the Jitsi chat client? (And how about the other way
around?)
Note that I'm not talking with Jitsi to the other client, instead both
clients are talking to some other account, both using the same XMPP account.

Unless those instances enabled carbons (http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0280.html) your xmpp server should not bother you with those messages.

Hi Fippo,

Thanks, that was the missing link! Indeed, I was testing something using
jit.si and it has support for carbons. I knew there was something, but I
couldn't put my finger on it.
