[jitsi-dev] where is the relation between sip and xmpp account

#1

Hi,

where is the relation between a sip and xmpp account?
I configured a sip account and an xmpp account. All preconfigured
xmpp contacts and groups get fetched from ejabberd. Only one of the
accounts has the ability to do a phone call. But the number is crap.
Where to configure the relation of a phone number and an xmpp contact?
And what configuration shows up as a contact being able to receive calls?

Is it maybe that sip and xmpp account must be the same? Like
buddy@server.domain.com?
What if this are different account names which would normally be the case?

Thanks and best regards,
Matt

Hey Matt,

Hi,

where is the relation between a sip and xmpp account?

Jitsi would allow you to use the number registered in a contact's VCARD
for call through any protocol available on your Jitsi installation. This
can mean SIP but also XMPP.

There are no other relations between SIP and XMPP.

I configured a sip account and an xmpp account. All preconfigured
xmpp contacts and groups get fetched from ejabberd. Only one of the
accounts has the ability to do a phone call.

By default Jitsi would allow you to call any SIP contact but it would
only let you make calls to XMPP contacts if they advertise support for
Jingle.

But the number is crap.

Not sure I got this. What number is crap? Is it the number or the
conversation? How is it crap?

Where to configure the relation of a phone number and an xmpp contact?

There's no way to do this. You can add phone numbers as XMPP or SIP
contacts and then merge these contacts together. But you cannot just add
a number to a contact without the number being a contact itself.

And what configuration shows up as a contact being able to receive calls?

Is it maybe that sip and xmpp account must be the same? Like
buddy@server.domain.com?

No there's no such requirement. XMPP and SIP contacts are completely
independent.

Hope this helps,
Emil
