[jitsi-dev] WebRTC and Jitsi

#1

Hi,

Would like to ask if with the upcoming 2.0 jitsi release is WebRTC interop
possible. Can we call from jitsi to a WebRTC phone in a browser?
I would assume that this is related with Opus protocol for voice and VP8
for video

Thanks
Mircea

Hey Mircea,

Ingo recently confirmed interoperability with sipml5 via sip2sip.info.

We do suppose Opus and VP8 but I wouldn't say that's what it comes down
to. RTCWEB also mandates support for G.711 so this would have been
enough. As for video ... well there's a lot that remains to be seen on
that front.

The real issues with WebRTC interop would come from support for (tickle)
ICE (which we currently only have for XMPP) and DTLS. Currently Chrome
also supports SDES, which is why it would work with Jitsi, but DTLS is
what the IETF is choosing as an only option so we'd have to take care of
it at some point.

Cheers,
Emil
