[jitsi-dev] Video and Desktop sharing failing silently on XMPP server, even though audio works

#1

Hi there,

I've setup the OpenFire XMPP server on my own server, and I'm trying to use
that with Jitsi. I'm able to sign in to my account, add contacts, chat with
them, and do audio calls. All of that works. However, video calls and
desktop sharing don't work.

What happens is, the sender is able to see his own desktop and his own
video from jitsi. However the receiver only sees a regular audio call, he
isn't asked to authorize video / desktop sharing, and sees no indication
that the sender has tried them. He just sees the sender's avatar where
normally there'd be his video or his desktop.

I'm running the program from within IntelliJ, and I see these errors in
logs:

bt_audio_service_open: connect(): Connection refused(111)

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:961 (snd_pcm_dmix_open) The dmix plugin supports only
playback stream
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:961:1022 (snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave

I think the audio service error might be to do with my usb sound card, it
slipped and had to be readjusted as i was testing. Not sure about the ALSA
errors.

Has anyone been able to get video & desktop sharing with an XMPP server or
with OpenFire specifically? If so, did you have to do anything in
particular? Any other info on how to debug this issue would be great as
well.

Thanks.

If I disable encryption from options -> accounts -> security, then my video
and desktop sharing starts to work once again. While I have encryption
turned on, it does not work.

Any ideas why this might be? I do not currently have SSL working on my
server, could that be a reason why?

Also in my logs, I see this:

SEVERE: [1074]
impl.protocol.jabber.ProtocolProviderServiceJabberImpl.connectUsingSVRRecords().937
No SRV addresses found for _xmpp-client._tcp.xx.xx.xx.xx

(where xx.xx.xx.xx is the ip where i'm running my server)

Would appreciate any help or pointers, thanks.
