[jitsi-dev] Understanding STUN for jitsi-meet

#1

Hi

Taking a look in the doc of jitsi[1], show almost ports used in the
environment. IMHO, is good too add the UDP ports. Isn't clear from where is
necessary the UDP ports 10000 ~ 10100.

Also isn't clear (for me) the STUN in this scheme. I ask about this because
I have lots of people with connection issues. So, I ask if is possible the
people have problems with signalling between them because can't access the
Google's STUN. Is Jicofo, JVB or the user web browsers that need to contact
the Google's STUN servers?

Since now, thanks in advance.

Hi,

Those stun servers are only used for p2p. If p2p fails the videobridge is used.

If you are having problems connecting to jvb, then when this is
happening, are you testing with meet.jit.si or with your deployment?
If you have a deployment is jvb listening on port 443 for tcp
connections so it can fall back to that in case the client is in a
restrictive network where only https connections are allowed.

Currently, the only ports needed for the media between the client and
jvb are udp 10000 and tcp 443 (or 4443 depending on the deployment).
