[jitsi-dev] STUN/ICE in SIP in the works?

#1

Hi,

I know that there were plans to implement STUN/ICE in SIP, just like there
already is an XMPP implementation in Jitsi.

If I recall correctly, this was to be done for this summer. My question is
what's the status of getting ICE on SIP in Jitsi? For my use case, jitsi
without ice/stun is pretty useless for SIP as I'm sitting behind NAT and my
pbx server is not relaying media.
Also, I assume we'll be using ice4J but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks

Anyone?

Hey there,

Anyone?

Yay! Busy times

    Hi,

I know that there were plans to implement STUN/ICE in SIP, just like

Indeed!

If I recall correctly, this was to be done for this summer.

Still is. That is second half of September!

My
question is what's the status of getting ICE on SIP in Jitsi?

In progress. We are also working on implementing trickle ICE and that's a bit tricky as we are doing it together with the specification.

It's a non-trivial process and it's taking a bit of time.

For my
use case, jitsi without ice/stun is pretty useless for SIP as I'm

With ICE, you would also need to have a media relay. The only difference is how often it will get used.

Also, I assume we'll be using ice4J but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes we are.

Cheers,
Emil
