[jitsi-dev] Roster editor ?

#1

Hi,

is a roster editor planned ?

It would be extremely useful to be able to edit and modify
all of the roster contacts, in addition to only add and delete.

Regards, Earl

Hi Emil,

would you agree that a roster editor would be a very useful part of
JITSI and should be placed on a to-do list ?

There is an account editor and a roster editor is just as necessary, in
my opinion.

As for the immediate, is it possible to edit the roster file manually?
Where can these files be found for WIN and Ubuntu versions?

Hey Eric,

It is currently possible to add, remove, move and group contacts in
Jitsi. Is this what you have in mind or were you talking about something
more advanced?

Hi Emil,

Adding, removing, moving, or grouping contacts is not sufficient.

It is necessary to be able to edit my contact friend@abc.com who has
changed his JID to friend@jit.si, for example.

I can not see in an instant all my contacts, which of my accounts they
are associated with, and what their JID is. I can not select one of my
contacts and modify the parameters.

For example, my account earl@xyz.com is associated with friend@jit.si
and now I want to associate this friend to earl@abc.com and delete the
association with earl@xyz.com while keeping other friends still associated
with earl@xyz.com.

There is no way to edit the roster list as it is possible to edit the accounts.

I searched for a file hoping to find an XML or other file that I could at least
possibly manually edit the roster contacts, but found nothing with WIN.

Hey Earl,

Hi Emil,

Adding, removing, moving, or grouping contacts is not sufficient.

It is necessary to be able to edit my contact friend@abc.com who has
changed his JID to friend@jit.si, for example.

Well this is not really the same contact. It's a new jid/address and it
can simply be added to the contact list.

If, on the other hand, the contact only changed their name for some
reason you can currently edit their display name with Jitsi and the
change will also be propagated to the server.

I can not see in an instant all my contacts, which of my accounts they
are associated with, and what their JID is.

You can see this by hovering over a contact with the mouse.

I can not select one of my
contacts and modify the parameters.

What parameters do you have in mind? As I mentioned above, changing the
jid/address is not an option and that changing the display name is
already possible. What other parameters do you have in mind?

For example, my account earl@xyz.com is associated with friend@jit.si
and now I want to associate this friend to earl@abc.com and delete the
association with earl@xyz.com while keeping other friends still associated
with earl@xyz.com.

You can currently do this with Jitsi by adding friend@jit.si to
earl@abc.com and removing it from earl@xyz.com. One could indeed imagine
doing the same thing through drag and drop but I don't think we'll be
implementing this in the near future.

There is no way to edit the roster list as it is possible to edit the
accounts.

I searched for a file hoping to find an XML or other file that I could
at least
possibly manually edit the roster contacts, but found nothing with WIN.

Locally contacts are stored in contact-list.xml. However, simply
changing account association in this file is not going to have an effect
on the server and it would be overridden on the next restart.

Hope this makes things clearer
Emil

Hi Emil,

Are you saying that if my account is earl@abc.com, my
roster contacts are stored at jabber.abc.com and that
the local file "contact-list.xml" is over-written each
time that I log into jabber.abc.com ?
