Hi,
I found this thread in archives and would like to raise it up.
As I understand the codec is required for voice/video, but what about
messaging? Pidgin + Sipe does support Office Communicator and I think
it would be very nice to have such support in Jitsi.

Hey
So - how do you think - what is best way to implement this - extend SIP
protocol or create new one, based on SIP?
First of all we'd need to have the codec used by Lync/OCS. As far as I
remember it's still proprietary und doesn't use RTP but something that goes
over TCP (sic!). Unless that's been changed from OCS 2007 R2 to Lync 2010,
this would be a huge effort.

Ingo
Hi Andrey,
AFAIK, Microsoft Office Communicator/Lync use a _modified_ version of SIP (for media signaling) and SIMPLE (for instant messaging) which are incompatible with standard SIP/SIMPLE.
It will be a good addition to Jitsi to be compatible with Lync but currently we have a lot of higher priority tasks in our TODO list. Any official specification/documentation links for the modified SIP/SIMPLE version Microsoft used are welcome. And of course we will be glad to review patches that implement such stuff.
