[jitsi-dev] Question regaing contact management

#1

Dear all,

in my contacts I have a mix of SIP and XMPP contacts. The information
about these contacts is in file contactlist.xml.

I see the following phenomen:

Adding a SIP account works, but only if that account is in state online
Adding a Jabber account works, but only if that account is in state online

Then I set all accounts to offline (SIP and XMPP) and add a new SIP account
and add a new contact to that account. Stoping, starting Jitsi: all old contacts
(SIP and XMPP) are gone, only the latest addition is still available.

Of course, setting the XMPP account to online restores the XMPP contacts
in the contactlist. But the SIP contacts are still gone.

Is there any backup storage for these deleted/not managed SIP contacts? Is
that a 'normal' behaviour? IMHO SIP contacts should not be deleted if I just
the the associated account to offline. I didn't delete that account.

Do I miss something here?

Best regards,
Werner

Hey Werner,

Sorry for the late answer.

Yes. You definitely need to be connected and authenticated in order to
add contacts for either of the above.

Then I set all accounts to offline (SIP and XMPP) and add a new SIP account
and add a new contact to that account. Stoping, starting Jitsi: all old contacts
(SIP and XMPP) are gone, only the latest addition is still available.

Did you disable the accounts or did you just turn them offline?
Disabling them would indeed prevent contacts from loading. If the
accounts are just offline then could it be that the contacts are simply
hidden as offline?

Of course, setting the XMPP account to online restores the XMPP contacts
in the contactlist. But the SIP contacts are still gone.

Right. We only delete contacts if you delete the account. They shouldn't
be disappearing otherwise. We do have a long standing issue with contact
management though and it has been known to cause contacts to disappear
or unmerge randomly. I suppose we'll try to get it resolved once we move
our meta contact list storage to sqlite.

Cheers,
Emil
