[jitsi-dev] Problem on creating jitsi installer in windows

#1

Hi All,

I am trying to create windows installer for jitsi. After tried to search some discussion and article about this on internet, I've got problem and got no idea.
what I have done are:
1. install MinGW and put in C:\MinGW and add to PATH env variable C:\MinGW\bin
2. extract wix35-binaries, put in C:\wix35-binaries and set <propertyname="wix.home"value="C:\wix35-binaries"/> in build.xml
3. install izpack, put on C:\izpack and set izpack.dir=C:\\izpack on installers.properties
4. Make sure libbz2.a and liblzma.a exist in "jitsi\src\native\windows\setup\lib\x86"
5. I dont know whether this right, but i copied mingw32-make.exe from C:\MinGW\bin into jitsi\src\native\windows\run\ and rename to make.exe

Then I run build-installation-wix target from build.xml ada here i got:
Buildfile: C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\eclipse\workspaces\jitsi\build.xml

Hi,

     Did you install Cygwin?
     On the other hand, you have to copy mingw32-make.exe into
make.exe in the same folder where mingw32-make.exe is.

In addition to what David pointed out about Cygwin:

1. install MinGW and put in C:\MinGW and add to PATH env variable
C:\MinGW\bin

When invoking Ant and build-installation-wix, you should also define
the Ant property mingw.home to be equal to C:/MinGW then.

2. extract wix35-binaries, put in C:\wix35-binaries and set <property
name="wix.home" value="C:\wix35-binaries" /> in build.xml

It shouldn't be necessary to modify build.xml, you can specify the
value of the Ant property wix.home on the command line when invoking
Ant and build-installation-wix.

3. install izpack, put on C:\izpack and set izpack.dir=C:\\izpack on
installers.properties

IzPack is not used by build-installation-wix i.e. this step is unnecessary.

4. Make sure libbz2.a and liblzma.a exist in
"jitsi\src\native\windows\setup\lib\x86"

These are under version control so they should be there unless you've
tinkered with them in your local copy.

5. I dont know whether this right, but i copied mingw32-make.exe from
C:\MinGW\bin into jitsi\src\native\windows\run\ and rename to make.exe

Well, I guess you could've just renamed mingw32-make.exe in place i.e.
leave it in C:\MinGW\bin... Anyway, we use Cygwin's make (which,
naturally, resides in the installed Cygwin tree).

     [exec] Makefile:40: *** target pattern contains no `%'. Stop.

You should probably try specifying the paths using / instead of \.

Hi,

 Did you install Cygwin?
 On the other hand, you have to copy mingw32\-make\.exe into

make.exe in the same folder where mingw32-make.exe is.

Cheers,

Hi All,

I am trying to create windows installer for jitsi. After tried to search
some discussion and article about this on internet, I've got problem and
got
no idea.
what I have done are:
1. install MinGW and put in C:\MinGW and add to PATH env variable
C:\MinGW\bin
2. extract wix35-binaries, put in C:\wix35-binaries and set <property
name="wix.home" value="C:\wix35-binaries" /> in build.xml
3. install izpack, put on C:\izpack and set izpack.dir=C:\\izpack on
installers.properties
4. Make sure libbz2.a and liblzma.a exist in
"jitsi\src\native\windows\setup\lib\x86"
5. I dont know whether this right, but i copied mingw32-make.exe from

Hi David,

I tried to follow your steps in attached file.
I confused about to install MinGW, it said:
(only gcc, no g++) (use installation file .zip, taken into account that build.xml is looking for a sub-folder x86 y x64 into MinGW root folder) http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/files/latest/download
Install in C:\MinGW\x86

After downloaded from the link above, I got file -> x86-mingw32-build-1.0-sh.tar.bz2, extract it and these the files inside:
COPYING
x86-mingw32-build.sh.version
x86-mingw32-build.sh.mirrors
x86-mingw32-build.sh.hosts
x86-mingw32-build.sh.help
x86-mingw32-build.sh.getopts
x86-mingw32-build.sh.functions
x86-mingw32-build.sh.dialogue
x86-mingw32-build.sh.detail
x86-mingw32-build.sh.conf
x86-mingw32-build.sh.batch
x86-mingw32-build.sh
AUTHORS
README
LICENSE

Maybe this really dumb question., but how can I install it (in windows)?

Thanks
Rgds/Dedy

P.S. Previously I got mingw-get-inst-20120426.exe and simply double-click to install MinGW into C:\MinGW

Hi Dady

I'm not sure about your problem. I've just clicked on this link and
automatically download a .exe file.

As I alluded to in my previous message in this thread, build.xml does not require MinGW to be installed in a specific directory, the default for MinGW targeting 32-bit Windows is C:/MinGW/x68 and any other path can be specified on the command line using the Ant property mingw.home.

Hi David,
its okay now, Thanks for your guidance, thats really help me.

@ Lyubomir Marinov,
Thanks for highlight this -> [exec] Makefile:40: *** target pattern contains no `%'. Stop.
Apparently, we need change \ to / in build.xml that define the mingw home and wix path.

Hi All,

After succeed on creating windows installation 32bit, I got error when running and said I need to install JRE/JDK to run Jitsi, like below:
"A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) must be available in order to run Jitsi."

I know that all java application need JVM to run, then I check real jitsi installer (http://download.jitsi.org/jitsi/windows/jitsi-1.0-latest-x86.exe) was able to run on the same machine. How can I make it that way?
I think I missed something on installation package so that it cannot run without JRE/JDK available.
Please help

P.S. on jitsi (my version) installation location (C:\Program Files\Jitsi) there is jre-6u26-windows-i586.exe

Thanks/Rgds

Hi Dady

I'm not sure about your problem. I've just clicked on this link and
automatically download a .exe file.

I'm sorry about .zip information maybe it's a bit confusing. Try going
to http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/files/ and click on "Looking
for the latest version? Download mingw-get-inst-20120426.exe (662.7
kB)" to download the .exe installation file.

Next step, during MinGW installation take into account you have to add
to the installation gcc, g++ and make (I've added it from devel).

The information about the path is because of build.xml of Jitsi has
C:\MinGW\x86 as MinGW path so you could install it on this path or
modify the build.xml.

Hi David,

Yeah, I think that was the problem, but I followed your guide pretty well, but Im not really sure what I was workin on my installer.prop is fine. Please take a look:
# Paths to Windows JRE setups to be included in the respective setups of SIP
windows.jre.file=C:/jre/jre-6u26-windows-i586.exe
windows.jre64.file=C:/jre/jre-6u24-windows-x64.exe
# Paths to the ZIP files of private extracted Windows JRE setups to be deployed

windows.jre.zip=C:/jre/jre-6u24-windows-i586.zip
windows.jre64.zip=C:/jre/jre-6u24-windows-x64.zip

I also tried to using "\\" instead of "/" but still no luck, but inside C:\jre those files are exist.

Anyway, after tried to differentiate both (real jitsi and the one i modified) in the program files installation directory, they have diff as bellow:
jitsy i've modified
[dir] lib
[dir] native
[dir] sc-bundles
[file] jre-6u24-windows-i586.exe
[file] run.exe
[file] sc-logo.ico
[file] update-location.properties

original jitsi installer
[dir] jre
[dir] lib
[dir] native
[dir] sc-bundles
[file] run.exe
[file] sc-logo.ico
[file] update-location.properties

I wonder why from installer I've made there is no directory "jre", but instead it has file jre-6u24-windows-i586.exe (that I set on installer.properties)
I also tried few prob solving and checking in some area, but none worked
Any suggestion, what is wrong here?

Thanks/Rgds

Hi,

I've used "\\". On the other hand, take into account that in your .zip
file you must compress your jre installed folder. I mean, if you have
installed jre in C:\Program Files\Java\jre7 then you have to compress
the content of this jre7 folder into a .zip file where the folder into
this .zip file is called jre instead of jre7 and type the path of this
.zip file in your installer.prop

Have I succeeded explain something clear? I know it sound strange

Cheers,

Hi David,

Yeah, I think that was the problem, but I followed your guide pretty well,
but Im not really sure what I was workin on my installer.prop is fine.
Please take a look:
# Paths to Windows JRE setups to be included in the respective setups of
SIP
windows.jre.file=C:/jre/jre-6u26-windows-i586.exe
windows.jre64.file=C:/jre/jre-6u24-windows-x64.exe
# Paths to the ZIP files of private extracted Windows JRE setups to be
deployed
windows.jre.zip=C:/jre/jre-6u24-windows-i586.zip
windows.jre64.zip=C:/jre/jre-6u24-windows-x64.zip

I also tried to using "\\" instead of "/" but still no luck, but inside
C:\jre those files are exist.

Anyway, after tried to differentiate both (real jitsi and the one i
modified) in the program files installation directory, they have diff as
bellow:
jitsy i've modified
[dir] lib
[dir] native
[dir] sc-bundles
[file] jre-6u24-windows-i586.exe
[file] run.exe
[file] sc-logo.ico
[file] update-location.properties

original jitsi installer
[dir] jre
[dir] lib
[dir] native
[dir] sc-bundles
[file] run.exe
[file] sc-logo.ico
[file] update-location.properties

I wonder why from installer I've made there is no directory "jre", but
instead it has file jre-6u24-windows-i586.exe (that I set on
installer.properties)
I also tried few prob solving and checking in some area, but none worked
Any suggestion, what is wrong here?

Thanks/Rgds

Hi,

  Please, check if you have added correctly Java files to your
installer Jitsi installer. Step 3 in previous guide I sent to you.

Cheers,

The properties windows.jre.file and windows.jre.zip specify alternatives. The former instructs the Jitsi setup building procedure to include a Java Runtime Environment setup which is to be executed on the client machine if no suitable JRE if found. The latter tells the Jitsi setup building procedure to include a private JRE into Jitsi so that it does not depend on a system-wide one on the client machine. To avoid ambiguity, please define exactly one of these two alternatives and undefine the other.

Hi David, dont worry I totally get it, I just need time to try what u said and figure out if not work. So that this thread not too long for unnecessary talk.
so I was thinkin that the best thing to take the jre along with the installer is use the windows.jre.zip, even im pretty sure that using windows.jre.file will work as well. It just not clear to me whether use .rar or .exe so I prefer to use windows.jre.zip.
And as Lyubomir Marinov suggested just set one of them and make sure the file exist and everything will be fine.

Thats really help me Guys.

Thank you.

# Paths to Windows JRE setups to be included in the respective setups of
SIP
windows.jre.file=C:/jre/jre-6u26-windows-i586.exe
windows.jre64.file=C:/jre/jre-6u24-windows-x64.exe
# Paths to the ZIP files of private extracted Windows JRE setups to be
deployed
windows.jre.zip=C:/jre/jre-6u24-windows-i586.zip
windows.jre64.zip=C:/jre/jre-6u24-windows-x64.zip

I also tried to using "\\" instead of "/" but still no luck, but inside
C:\jre those files are exist.

Anyway, after tried to differentiate both (real jitsi and the one i
modified) in the program files installation directory, they have diff as
bellow:
jitsy i've modified
[dir] lib
[dir] native
[dir] sc-bundles
[file] jre-6u24-windows-i586.exe
[file] run.exe
[file] sc-logo.ico
[file] update-location.properties

original jitsi installer
[dir] jre
[dir] lib
[dir] native
[dir] sc-bundles
[file] run.exe
[file] sc-logo.ico
[file] update-location.properties

I wonder why from installer I've made there is no directory "jre", but
instead it has file jre-6u24-windows-i586.exe (that I set on
installer.properties)
I also tried few prob solving and checking in some area, but none worked
Any suggestion, what is wrong here?

Thanks/Rgds

Hi,

Please, check if you have added correctly Java files to your
installer Jitsi installer. Step 3 in previous guide I sent to you.
